Balgarianovinite.com At a meeting with the leadership of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria on Wednesday, Progressive Bulgaria coalition leader Rumen Radev said that the coalition’s programme is focused on the standard and quality of life of Bulgarian citizens – high and stable incomes and pensions, social protection, and the digitalization of social services.
CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov said that he sees the coalition’s programme as being to the right of centre. “We expect 17% of GDP to go toward social spending and 6% toward healthcare by 2030,” he said.
“I am pleased that our priorities largely overlap. There are differences as well, but they are mainly in the figures,” Radev said.
He said that they share priorities related to incomes, social policies, and budget redistribution, but cannot currently commit to specific figures because the state of the budget remains unclear.
“The only autonomous segment of our energy sector is coal power – the raw materials, facilities, and workforce are ours, and so are the repair technologies. We will do what is necessary to preserve this autonomy, especially given the unclear geopolitical situation,” Radev said. He also spoke in favour of a strong economy that exports more than just raw materials and advocated for a cautious approach to taxation.
“We need to tighten the taps in the public sector,” he said, adding that the coalition plans to introduce AI oversight of public procurement in order to stop “leakages”.
