Balgarianovinite.com Over 60,000 Bulgarian nationals in 68 countries have applied to vote abroad in the April 19 parliamentary elections, according to data published on the Central Election Commission (CEC) website. The deadline for submitting applications for voting abroad expired on Tuesday.
A total of 60,897 applications in sections abroad have been received. The highest number has been received from the following countries: Turkiye – 15,536; the United Kingdom and Ireland – 10,471; Germany – 8,095; Spain – 4,785; and the United States – 3,988.
CEC Deputy Chair Rositsa Mateva said on Thursday last week that 30,688 applications were submitted for the October 2024 elections. “I assume that, due to the restrictions for countries outside the European Union, more people are submitting applications this time,” she added.
Earlier this year, Parliament amended the Election Code, introducing a limit of no more than 20 polling stations outside diplomatic and consular missions in non-EU countries.
