Overregulation Recipe for Disaster, Bulgarian Petroleum and Gas Association Chairman Says

Overregulation, particularly in these difficult times, is a recipe for disaster, Bulgarian Petroleum and Gas Association (BPGA) Chairman Svetoslav Benchev said at an international conference in Sofia on Thursday. The conference, titled “Central and Eastern Europe together for a competitive and secure energy future” is organized by the Bulgarian Petroleum and Gas Association (BPGA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy.
Benchev said that in recent years, energy has become part of everyone’s discussions because energy prices and security of supply directly affect businesses and people.
“We are getting increasingly close to setting targets that are impossible to achieve. We are concerned that this policy will continue in the future. In most cases, these decisions have been made without the active involvement of industry,” he said.
The region cannot afford to be merely a place where decisions made elsewhere are implemented, Benchev said, noting that it has a strong industrial base and that people expect reliable energy at an affordable price.
“That is why we want to talk about the energy transition with an understanding of the effects of every decision,” Benchev said.
