Balgarianovinite.com National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan discussed the main areas and results of the Bulgaria-US strategic partnership with chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Sofia H. Martin McDowell, the National Assembly press service said here on Wednesday.
The meeting, requested by the US side, also looked at stronger cooperation on priority issues on the bilateral agenda.
Nazaryan said she believed that Bulgaria would continue to seek to preserve the upward trend in its strategic partnership with the United States after the early parliamentary elections. She also voiced confidence that the Bulgarian side would work to make progress on key issues and step up cooperation across the shared agenda.
Nazaryan noted that stronger cooperation with the United States was especially important in new technologies and innovation, artificial intelligence, resilience, connectivity, people-to-people contacts, security in the Black Sea region and on NATO’s eastern flank, as well as close cooperation on the Western Balkans.
Progress on the requirements for Bulgaria’s entry into the US Visa Waiver Program gave grounds to expect positive movement on the issue very soon, Nazaryan said. She added that this was a long-standing national priority backed by broad public and political consensus.
Since the start of the month, McDowell has held meetings with caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov, caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynsky, caretaker Minister of Energy Traicho Traikov and caretaker Minister of Transport and Communications Korman Ismailov.
