Balgarianovinite.com Parliament is scheduled to hold second-reading debates on the 2026 State Social Security (SSI) Budget Bill and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Budget Bill this week, according to the draft agenda of the National Assembly.
The SSI budget bill retains the maximum monthly pension at EUR 1,738.40 and abolishes the EUR 30.68 COVID-19 supplement for newly granted pensions. It also raises the minimum social security income for self-insured persons to EUR 620.20 and the maximum insurable income to EUR 2,300 as of August 1, 2026. State employees and judicial staff will begin paying personal social security contributions under an 80:20 employer-employee split, moving to 60:40 in 2027.
The NHIF budget bill provides for an 8.5% increase in spending, or EUR 412.3 million more than in 2025. The Budget Committee also approved provisions granting uninterrupted health insurance rights to Bulgarian monks at the St. George Zograf Monastery on Mount Athos.
MPs are also expected to elect a new Chair of the State Agency for National Security, with the government nominating former agency head Plamen Tonchev, and to vote on a member of the Counter-Corruption Commission.
On Friday, Parliament is due to consider amendments to the Renewable Energy Sources Act at first reading, followed by the regular parliamentary oversight session.
