Balgarianovinite.com The National Assembly will hold an extraordinary session on Tuesday to hear caretaker Finance Minister Georgi Klisurski, Customs Agency Executive Director Georgi Dimov, Chair of the State Agency State Reserve and Wartime Stocks, Asen Asenov, and the special commercial administrator of Lukoil Neftohim Burgas, Rumen Spetsov, over fuel supplies, according to information published on the Parliament’s website on Saturday.
The request was submitted on Friday by MRF-New Beginning. The parliamentary group urges competent authorities to provide information on the State’s readiness to ensure adequate fuel supplies for households and industry amid the crisis caused by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the measures the government plans to address the resulting price shock.
In their submission, the lawmakers note that around 20% of global crude oil and petroleum product shipments, as well as about 20% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments, are transported via the Strait of Hormuz. They highlight that the strait is currently blocked to free navigation, which is creating unprecedented pressure on global oil, petroleum products, and LNG markets. As a result, crude oil and LNG prices are rising rapidly, with trends difficult to predict at this time, the group says.
The parliamentary group also stressed that they share citizens’ and businesses’ concerns that the heightened situation may affect the regular supply of crude oil, petroleum products, and LNG, and may negatively impact retail prices. “The people and businesses of Bulgaria deserve full information, forecasts, and compliance, or non-compliance, with the existing legislation in Bulgaria concerning oil and petroleum products,” the submission reads.
On March 4, caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov stated that that Bulgaria receives oil and fuels from destinations not affected by the hostilities and that deliveries to the country have not been disrupted. According to him, the refinery in Burgas has sufficient quantities of oil purchased before the start of the conflict and before prices increased on global markets.
According to data from the specialized platform Fuelo, domestic fuel prices rose 2–5% last week following the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East, which restricted oil supplies. Standard A95 gasoline increased by EUR 0.04 per litre, or 3.2%. On February 27, the day before the US and Israel’s attack on Iran, A95 gasoline was trading at EUR 1.25 per litre; on March 3, it was EUR 1.26, and on Saturday it stands at EUR 1.29 per litre.
