People Aged 50+ Have Potential on Labour Market, Labour and Social Policy Minister Says

Minister of Labour and Social Policy Nataliya Efremova, speaking at the Y50+ Talents forum, which opened in Sofia on Monday, said that “As representatives of the state, we can see very clearly the potential of people aged 50 and over, and believe that they should be supported on the labour market.”
“It is a fact that 50+ is the new age of success, and this is not a cliché,” Efremova said. In her words, 50 is no longer a limit, but an age of experience, maturity and knowledge gained from real life.
By the end of 2025, there will be over 1.5 million people aged over 65 in Bulgaria. This means that one in four people is of retirement age, Efremova said. She added that the working-age population in Bulgaria is declining. “This is why we must pay particular attention to how we can attract and retain everyone up to this age in the labour market,” the Minister noted.
Efremova highlighted that people aged 50 and over can be good mentors and pass on their experience to their younger colleagues. In her view, this combination of skills can be the key to a company’s success. She also said that people aged 50 and over can embark on a new type of activity.
Regarding the emergence of artificial intelligence and digital innovations in the labour market, the Minister pointed out that there are national programmes offering free training and subsidised employment. Efremova urged people not to stop developing their skills.
The Forum 50+ the New Age of Success aims to offer a positive and inspiring perspective on professional and personal potential after 50. The forum challenges the traditional notion that a person’s professional peak is behind him at 50, and presents 50+ as an age of accumulated expertise, confidence and opportunities for new achievements. At the heart of the forum are successful careers, entrepreneurship, leadership and new professional roles, as well as people who have reached the strongest period of their professional lives after 50, the organizers said on their website.
