Balgarianovinite.com A photographic exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Neonatology Clinic at the Maichin Dom Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment in Obstetrics and Gynecology opened in Sofia on Monday in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. The exhibition, titled “Every New Life Deserves a Chance,” is held under the auspices of President Iliana Iotova.
The exhibition pays tribute to the doctors and medical professionals who, over five decades, have dedicated their work to giving premature and critically ill newborns a chance at life.
“Giving every new life a chance is not only the title of this photographic exhibition – it is the mission that all of you carry out,” President Iotova told the medical professionals at the official opening.
Iotova said the exhibition captures the idea of lives that have overcome extraordinary challenges. “You have to be a special kind of person, to carry this within your soul and have an infinitely compassionate heart to be able to do this work,” she said.
“Throughout these 50 years, you have changed lives,” the president said. “You make these families stronger and give them a future. You help these tiny human beings open their eyes to the world. Isn’t that magic?”
Iotova also stressed that children’s healthcare must not become a subject of political confrontation, describing it as a national cause. “It saddens me to see the divisions over the children’s hospital, when it sometimes seems that we talk more than we act,” she said.
The president also congratulated the team behind the “Bulgarian Christmas” charity initiative, which has supported children’s healthcare for more than 20 years. She noted that the initiative has provided medical institutions with access to state-of-the-art equipment.
Health Minister Katya Ivkova also attended the opening of the exhibition and paid tribute to the work of the Neonatology Clinic.
She noted that the clinic’s 50 years represent thousands of hours of work and compassion for mothers and their families.
“Your dedication has undoubtedly left a lasting mark on the hearts and souls of countless mothers, grandmothers, grandfathers and children,” the minister said. She added that although the medical professionals often describe Maichin Dom as their second home, they themselves represent a source of hope for many mothers and fathers.
