Plovdiv Region has 7,500 registered agricultural producers and accounts for more than 43% of Bulgaria’s tomato production and 40% of its peppers, Regional Governor Georgi Yanev said at a discussion forum entitled “The Future of Bulgarian Agriculture – Policies, Competitiveness and Sustainability”, held as part of the “Gifts of Thrace” agricultural exhibition here on Friday.
He emphasized that the region has nearly 8,000 hectares of vineyards and over 1,000 hectares of oil-bearing roses, noting that the food industry in the Plovdiv and Sofia regions accounts for 43% of Bulgaria’s finished food production.
