Balgarianovinite.com Law enforcement authorities are operating nationwide and will not allow vote-buyers to distort the free choice of citizens, the Interior Ministry’s acting Secretary General Georgi Kandev said on Friday on Facebook.
“Across the country, large-scale police operations are being carried out. Police officers are acting decisively and will not allow vote-buyers at the last moment to undermine the free choice of citizens,” Kandev’s publication reads.
Kandev provided details of ongoing operations targeting vote-buying networks across the country.
In Blagoevgrad, authorities seized over EUR 16,000 and discovered sample ballots marked in advance with a specific party and preference, he said.
In Dobrich, numerous lists containing names and personal identification documents of citizens were found, he added.
According to him, nearly EUR 60,000, GBP 11,000, and USD 2,250 were seized in Targovishte, where three people were detained. Earlier, the regional Interior Ministry directorate reported the arrest of a 37-year-old man from the village of Golyamo Novo, suspected of offering financial incentives to fellow villagers to vote for a specific political party.
In Teteven, police received information about a local businessman allegedly offering EUR 50 per person to vote for a certain political force. During a search of his company office, over EUR 7,000 of unexplained origin were found, and the man was detained, Kandev added.
Earlier on Friday, the prosecuting magistracy has opened a probe against caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov, government ministers and the Interior Ministry Secretary General, Gurov announced in a Facebook post.
