The president should inspire dignity and pride in the Bulgarian people and make them feel safe about who is at the helm of state, presidential candidate and Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said at a meeting with Pleven residents on Thursday.
A candidate seeking the trust of Bulgarian voters to become head of state must be able to talk to everyone, because the president must represent all citizens, Kostadinov said. The head of state cannot represent only those who voted for him, but must also represent those who dislike him or have criticisms and objections, he added.
Kostadinov said that during his recent campaign visits around the country, people had mainly been asking whether Bulgaria would be drawn into a war.
“Bulgaria has no interest in taking part in a military conflict, even less so in one fought for foreign interests,” the presidential candidate said.
“This election is a choice between the current Euro-Atlantic status quo, which symbolizes Bulgaria’s vassalage, and the restoration of Bulgaria’s sovereignty,” Kostadinov said. He added that he and his running mate, Petar Volgin, had chosen “The Different Choice” as their campaign slogan because, in their view, the existing course would lead to greater vassalage and further decline of the Bulgarian state.
Kostadinov paid tribute to the soldiers who died for Bulgaria’s liberation at the St George the Conqueror Chapel-Mausoleum, where representatives of his Vazrazhdane party laid a wreath.
