Balgarianovinite.com Prime Ministers Andrey Gurov of Bulgaria and Yuliia Svyrydenko of Ukraine met in Kyiv on Monday, the Bulgarian government reported. After their session, the two countries’ education ministers Sergey Ignatov and Oksen Lisovyi, in the prime ministers’ presence, signed a protocol on the Bolhrad High School, an education establishment in Ukraine’s Odesa Oblast with an officially recognized Bulgarian focus.
At a joint press briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart, Gurov said that the Bolhrad High School, named after Bulgarian revolutionary Georgi S. Rakovski, is the oldest high school of the Bulgarian National Revival (18th-19th centuries), where some of the most prominent Bulgarian figures were educated. “We are ready to continue working to deepen this cooperation in the future,” the Bulgarian Prime Minister said regarding bilateral partnership in the fields of culture and education.
He said the school is a cultural bridge between Bulgaria and Ukraine. “The protocol we signed today is extremely important and gives Bulgarian children, who are part of the largest historical community outside Bulgaria, the opportunity to continue studying in their own language,” he noted.
Gurov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s firm and consistent support for Ukraine and its fight for independence and territorial integrity. “It was very important today that we are moving from support to concrete action. We discussed many topics and issues in various sectors of the economy that would benefit Bulgarian citizens and Ukrainian companies that can cooperate,” the guest said. As possible areas for deepening interaction between the two countries, he highlighted the economy, energy, the defence industry, innovation, transport and connectivity.
For her part, Prime Minister Svyrydenko stressed that the current visit by Prime Minister Gurov and part of the ministers in his caretaker cabinet is confirmation that Bulgaria and Ukraine are partners united by common values and historical ties, and by the pursuit of peace and sustainable development in the Black Sea region, the Bulgarian government reported. Svyrydenko expressed confidence that the current bilateral talks will be a solid basis for further development of cooperation between Sofia and Kyiv.
She confirmed the great importance of the signed protocol on the Bolhrad High School. She also emphasized transport connectivity in the region. “We are interested in involving Bulgaria and its companies in the projects for Ukraine’s reconstruction,” Svyrydenko said.
The Ukrainian Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the solidarity and compassion shown towards her country, which continue into the fifth year of Russia’s armed aggression. “We appreciate the military-technical and energy assistance provided, the support for our citizens who were forced to leave the country, and the initiatives in support of Ukrainian children,” Svyrydenko stressed.
