The process of EU enlargement and the sustainable consolidation of European principles and values of the candidate countries for EU membership were the focus of the meeting between Prime Minister Rumen Radev and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, the government press office reported on Thursday.
Marta Kos is currently on a visit to Bulgaria. She participated in an international ministerial conference on Pan-European Corridor VIII, which took place in Sofia on Thursday. During the forum, the development of the corridor as a link between the Adriatic and the Black Sea was discussed, as well as its significance for European integration, transport, energy and the economy, and its role in security and military mobility.
During the meeting, Radev and Kos agreed that connectivity in the Balkans is a key priority not only for the countries in the region but also for the European Commission, which provides financial support for a number of projects in this area.
The two stressed the importance of accelerating the construction of the corridor, as well as the expansion of transport, energy and digital networks, which are key factors in the development of South-Eastern Europe.
