Balgarianovinite.com A Russian Il-76 aircraft crossed Bulgarian airspace on a humanitarian mission to help fight wildfires in Serbia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BTA on Wednesday.
The overflight followed a request submitted by the Serbian authorities in a diplomatic note concerning the wildfires, the Ministry added.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Il-76 flew to help extinguish wildfires in Serbia, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said. The aircraft crossed Bulgarian airspace between 8:14 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. before landing at Nis Airport.
Bulgarian institutions issued the necessary permits for the flight in line with established procedures, the Ministry added.
International cooperation in bringing the disaster under control was particularly important as the wildfires in Serbia continued to spread near the Bulgarian border and threatened cross-border areas, the Ministry said.
The return flight plan had not yet been received.
