Security Requires Concrete Action, Not Wishful Thinking, Presidential Candidate Gurov Says in Dobrich 2026

Bulgaria’s security requires concrete action, not wishful thinking, presidential candidate Andrey Gurov said at a campaign event in Dobrich on Wednesday. Against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Black Sea, the country should request the activation of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty and work with its allies to ensure security, he added.
“We truly deserve leaders who are ready to take action, not just make statements about what they wish to achieve,” Gurov said. In his view, the Consultative Council for National Security should lead to concrete decisions and measures rather than just general statements.
He criticized the lack of sufficient information about potential threats and warned that silence prevents people from taking the best possible steps to protect themselves.
According to Gurov, security extends beyond defence to include access to water and energy resources, quality infrastructure, and transparent management of public funds.
The presidential candidate said the President’s Administration should be active and independent, bring issues to the forefront of public debate, and demand results, clear accountability, and deadlines. The president should support the government when it is moving in the right direction but also stand up against misguided decisions, Gurov said.
