Balgarianovinite.com In 2027, the minimum monthly wage in Bulgaria can be increased by between EUR 40 and EUR 50 from the current amount of EUR 620.20, which is the most realistic scenario. It will depend on the budget law package for next year, and the figure will be set by a final decision of the government, said Labour and Social Policy Minister Natalia Efremova, interviewed by bTV on Saturday.
Efremova said she is certain that there will be an increase, “because we now have a higher upper limit”, agreed between the government, trade unions and employers. She said the upper limit is in line with the requirements of EU law.
Efremova said that every three years there will be a review of how the minimum wage compares with the cost of living. Purchasing power, growth in the average wage and labour productivity will be taken into account over the long term. The Social Policy Minister is glad that the government managed to bring trade unions and employers to the negotiating table in order to reach what she described as a reasonable compromise.
Between 450,000 and 500,000 people on low incomes will likely receive a Christmas supplement of EUR 50. The minister noted that legislative amendments have expanded the group of people eligible for support at Christmas and Easter.
Efremova said that the draft budget for 2027 will include the Swiss rule for increasing pensions from the middle of next year. Under the Swiss formula, pensions are adjusted by 50% of the previous year’s inflation rate and 50% of the growth in the average contributory income.
The government is discussing the budgetary options for increasing the benefit paid during the second year of maternity leave. Efremova said the aim is to provide more incentives for mothers who return to work earlier. She stressed that there are two years of paid maternity leave and a third year that is unpaid. “This is an achievement that has been reached, and we are not currently discussing reducing it,” she said.
Minister Efremova said payments have begun to families affected by the torrential rains in August.
