Representatives of leading universities from countries in Southeastern Europe held a formal meeting at the St Kliment Ohridski Sofia University, organized by the Faculty of Philosophy, the university’s press center reported on Friday.
The meeting was attended by deans, deputy deans and representatives of the management of universities and research institutes working in the fields of philosophy, psychology, sociology, political science, European studies, public administration, cultural studies, logic, rhetoric, library and information sciences and other related areas of the humanities and social sciences.
The official guests at the opening of the meeting included representatives of Sofia University, the Ministry of Education and Science, the European Parliament Liaison Office and the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria.
The event was opened by Prof. Sonya Karabeliova, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, who said that behind the names of universities, faculties and departments are people – people with ideas, with experience and with questions. “I believe that this is a great starting point for any academic partnership. Our faculties and departments are different. We have different traditions, different academic profiles and different research interests. But at the same time, we share many things in common. We are connected by many topics: we explore the individual and society, we study culture, values and identity,” said Prof. Karabeliova.
Participants presented their institutions and professional fields, and the discussions focused on the opportunities for joint activities and long-term cooperation projects. They also discussed a shared digital platform, joint academic events, annual rotating regional meetings and publication opportunities in the universities’ and institutes’ academic journals.
