Balgarianovinite.com The 13th Golden Linden International Film Festival will take place in Stara Zagora from May 30 to June 3, featuring 50 films from 18 countries, the organizers reported. Festival founder and director Magdalena Ralcheva said this year’s edition will once again offer a strong and diverse programme, including special guests, surprises and accompanying events. She highlighted the festival’s support for documentary and short films, which often struggle to reach wider audiences.
The programme includes new films by renowned directors such as Francois Ozon, Paolo Sorrentino, Joachim Trier, Radu Jude, and Agnieszka Holland. Bulgarian cinema will also be strongly represented with feature, documentary and short films. Highlights include The Cruel Path by Deyan Bararev and Birthday (2025) by Ivaylo Penchev, featuring the final role of actor Vasil Banov.
Nine films will compete in the festival’s main programme, with awards to be presented for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The winners will be selected by an international jury of five cinema professionals from five countries, chaired by Antonia Kovacheva, director of the Bulgarian National Film Archive. The jury also includes Turkish director and producer Nuray Kayakan Sunbul, Georgian director and editor Giorgi Kharebava, Spanish film critic and festival director Jaime Noguera, and Italian director and screenwriter Marco Simone Puccini.
Audience members will be able to cast their votes for the Audience Award, as all screenings will be free of charge thanks to the support of Stara Zagora Municipality. They will take place at the Stara Zagora State Opera, the Regional Library, and the Cultural Centre.
