Ten Bulgarian artists are presenting their works in Thessaloniki as part of the Borders artistic exchange project, the Bulgarian Consulate General in the Greek city said on Wednesday.
The exhibition opened on October 13 and runs through November 3. The works are displayed at two venues in the city – Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki and the To Pikap cultural space. Admission is free.
The exhibition is the second part of an international artistic exchange project between Bulgaria and Greece involving 20 artists from the two countries. The first stage took place in Sofia in September, when ten Greek artists showed their works at Goethe-Institut Bulgaria and Doza Gallery.
Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki said the project is based on the idea of the border not as a dividing line but as a meeting place between people, communities and cultures. The Bulgarian exhibition in Thessaloniki explores borders as traces of movement.
Some of the works address migration, political borders and unequal freedom of movement, while others examine boundaries between the physical and digital worlds, dreams and reality, and life and death.
Borders is a project by The Artist at Play, carried out in partnership with Goethe-Institut Bulgaria and Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki, with additional support from the Singer-Zahariev Foundation. It is financed by Bulgaria’s National Culture Fund.
