Balgarianovinite.com Legendary British rock band The Cure will take the stage Friday night at the Phillgood Festival in Plovdiv, which runs through July 19. It will be the band’s first-ever concert in Bulgaria.
The three-day festival is being held at Plovdiv’s Rowing Canal and will feature three stages: Phillgood, Phillcool, and Phillrave.
Known as the enduring romantics of alternative rock, The Cure have spent nearly five decades shaping generations of musicians and fans with their signature melancholic sound. “This is the band whose influence has defined generations for almost 50 years. After more than 1,800 concerts around the world, they are finally coming to Bulgaria. Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, Roger O’Donnell, and Reeves Gabrels are set to deliver a truly historic performance,” organizers from Fest Team said.
They also noted that the band’s latest studio album, Songs of a Lost World, proves that in an era when fully realized albums are becoming increasingly rare, The Cure continue to create immersive musical worlds. “And yes—it’s Friday, so the audience will undoubtedly be singing along to Friday I’m in Love,” Fest Team added.
The festival’s lineup also includes Gorillaz, Moby, Wolf Alice, Kneecap, Just Mustard, Sleaford Mods, Perturbator, Suede, Einstürzende Neubauten, Thievery Corporation, Apashe & Brass Orchestra, Kadebostany, Hayes & Y, ALI, The Subways, Son Lux, Los Bitchos, Klass, Acid Arab, Daniel Avery, Erol Alkan, ISON, and many more, according to the organizers.
According to Stefan Elenkov, CEO of Fest Team, Phillgood is a festival inspired by the spirit of Plovdiv, the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe.
“It’s no coincidence that the festival’s name is a play on Philippopolis,” Elenkov said. “We want people to truly feel good and experience the unique excitement that only live music can create – that unforgettable moment when you forget everything else and simply live in the music.”
Four bus routes in Plovdiv will have extended operating hours during the festival, Plovdiv Municipality said in a press release Friday. From July 17 to 19, buses 10, 15, 17, and 37 will run from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m at approximately ten-minute intervals to ensure quick and convenient transportation for visitors after the festival programme ends.
