Newsmax host Greg Kelly raised the possibility that President Donald Trump’s White House ban on some major news outlets could backfire spectacularly, asking Vice President JD Vance what could happen when a Democrat takes the White House.
Speaking to Kelly Monday night on Newsmax, Vance dismissed the concerns by claiming Trump is more accessible than either former Presidents Barack Obama or Joe Biden:
JD VANCE: What we’re saying is we’re not going to give these papers and these news organizations special, privileged access to the White House.
The good thing about this, Greg you have to realize is we want every bias and every perspective to be present, but there are limited spaces. I mean, I’ve done a press briefing, probably more than any vice president in recent history.
And when you go there, there are only so many places, right? You have to choose some standard for how you dole out seats to these particular news organizations. If you are engaged in reporting, that is 98% negative if you’re engaged in effectively propaganda, why wouldn’t we give that seat to somebody who’s going to be a little bit more fair?
GREG KELLY: Is it like, look, maybe it’s 98% negative because it’s 98 in their opinion or in their view. But let’s move on from that. I actually what about the precedent?
All right. What does this put, say, conservative news organizations, if you want to call certain news organizations that the next time a Democrat is in there, there is concern about, you know, okay, now it’s your turn.
VANCE: Well, I think that, you know, you saw in the previous administrations, the presidents, the communications staff of those administrations actually really treated conservative news organizations unfairly.
We’re not even kicking out all biased media organizations. We’re not banning anyone. We’re saying that for a few of the most aggressive propaganda artists in the media, we’re not going to give you special access to the white House.
I think, frankly, if we followed the precedent of the Biden or Obama administrations, we’d be much more negative towards or towards liberal media because they were so negative towards conservative media.
The precedent was set a long time ago.
We’re being much more fair. The president is much more accessible than either Obama or Biden were. What he’s saying is, I’m not going to give you a special seat at the White House if you’re going to engage in propaganda.
