Balgarianovinite.com Three individuals linked to activities of Ukrainian development group KYB have been detained for up to 24 hours, the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Varna announced on Friday. The owner’s assistant, the company accountant and the lawyer have been detained.
The police press office added that proceedings are ongoing in a pre-trial investigation related to illegal construction in the Baba Alino area.
During the night, officers from the Regional Directorate searched addresses linked to the corporation’s operations. Numerous documents related to the activities of affiliated companies, as well as computers and phones, were seized. The search concluded in the morning.
On Thursday, the Varna Municipal Council heard Mayor Blagomir Kotsev on the matter. Kotsev told the media that the certificates of tolerance for the construction projects in Baba Alino were issued by the Primorski district during the previous administration.
On Wednesday, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov said that the stopping of the illegal construction in the Baba Alino area near Varna, carried out by KYB, falls within the municipality’s authority.
In a statement, KYB said that it is an investor with a long-term presence, real investments, and a professional track record not only in Bulgaria but also in several other countries. According to the information provided in the statement, the company operates in Bulgaria as a member of the Chamber of Builders for the Varna region and holds a Class I license for builders in Bulgaria [from the Central Professional Register of Builders]. The corporation added that the investment in the Forest Club complex is part of a long-term commitment to Varna and the region. “Significant funds have been invested in the project, and jobs have been created for Bulgarian and Ukrainian citizens, including people who found refuge and work in Bulgaria after the war in Ukraine began,” the statement said, without specifying the amount of the investment.
