Balgarianovinite.com A total of 10,897 voting screens have been distributed to all municipalities in order to put an end to at least some of the practices involving vote-buying and manipulation, said Vanya Nusheva, advisor to the caretaker Prime Minister on election matters. She was speaking at a briefing of the Coordination Council for the preparation of the April 19 early parliamentary elections.
Nusheva noted that with the same personnel resources and nearly the same number of specialized operations, there is currently four to five-fold greater detection rates regarding the pre-trial proceedings initiated for vote-buying and other crimes against citizens’ electoral rights.
Nusheva highlighted the efforts of the Government and regional governors to ensure well-organized and fair elections in which citizens can vote freely and according to their conscience.
Nusheva also highlighted the efforts to organize voting abroad so that polling stations are selected to allow the maximum number of Bulgarian citizens to exercise their right to vote. Voting machines were sent as early as April 8 to all polling stations designated for machine voting.
Regarding the work of the Electronic Governance Ministry, Nusheva said that it has focused its efforts on ensuring the ability to monitor every voter through video surveillance and on the voting machines themselves.
She also reported on the development of QR codes designed to enable people with visual impairments to make an easier and more informed choice. To ensure greater security of the election documents, numbered seals have been provided for all ballot bags, so there will be no surprises involving suddenly missing ballot papers, Nusheva added.
