The borderline media obsession with White House aide Natalie Harp continued on cable news on Saturday, with Vanity Fair writer Chris Whipple arguing there is “danger” in President Donald Trump getting printouts of pro-administration news from a “fact-free fangirl.”
Whipple also suggested Harp is mentally unwell during an interview with MS NOW’s Alex Witts.
“Natalie Harp is clearly a troubled young woman with a need to idolize Donald Trump,” Whipple said. “But the real danger here is Trump’s fixation on her.”
Whipple continued:
You know, in a normal White House, presidents have a so-called staff secretary who tees up reliable information on every side of an issue so that a president can make decisions.
But in this case, proximity is power. And so Trump is getting his information from someone who wants to please, only tells him what he wants to hear. And so he’s getting his information from, in effect, a kind of fact-free fangirl. And that’s nobody’s idea of a staff secretary in a health White House.
His remarks follow Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) claiming Trump would rather “travel with Natalie” than lead the nation last weekend — a comment which sparked a week of news coverage and heated debates over whether Ossoff’s diss was kosher or not. A number of pro-MAGA pundits and Trump officials ripped Ossoff for it, with White House Communications Director Steven Cheung branding Ossoff a “c*ck loser.”
Harp is the 35-year-old special assistant to Trump who helps him with social media posts and has been dubbed the “Human Printer” because she quickly prints positive news coverage and shares it with the president. She credits Trump with saving her life, after he approved legislation in 2018 which opened the door for her to get experimental treatment for bone cancer.
Ossoff later attempted to walk back his comment by telling MS NOW on Monday he was not suggesting Harp was sleeping with Trump; instead, he was merely saying Trump’s relationship with Harp showed he was in a “bubble” surrounded by sycophants.
But others backed his comment. Rep. Julie Johnson (D-TX) told CNN on Tuesday she did not believe Ossoff’s shot was “sexist” — it was “just a truthful fact.”And Miami Herald journalist Julie K. Brown — who won several awards for her reporting on Jeffrey Epstein — accused Harp of being Trump’s “side piece” a day later.
Whipple later told Witts he did not want to play “armchair psychologist,” but he felt it was “obvious” Harp “has some problems.”
