Balgarianovinite.com Bad management and an outdated water supply network have lead to huge losses, which in some places reach 85% on average for water utilities, said Nikola Dimitrov, top-of-the-list candidate of the Vazrazhdane party list in Yambol’s 31st multi-member constituency in a position distributed to the media on Friday.
“Yambol region is no exception. Water losses due to leaks and breakdowns are enormous, and the response of the institutions is slow and ineffective. Work is done “piecemeal” – temporary repairs are carried out, often only when spare parts are available, without a sustainable solution,” said the MP candidate.
He gave an example with the irrigation canal from the Malko Sharkovo dam, where losses reach 95%. In his words, this is “not just inefficiency, but a systemic failure in resource management, which directly affects agricultural producers and food security”.
According to Dimitrov, the way in which the water quantities in the Koprinka reservoir are managed is particularly worrying. Although it is located outside the district, the reservoir is of key importance for Yambol, as it regulates the level of the Tundzha River, and hence the groundwater. “When the interests of hydroelectric power plants are placed above those of citizens, it leads to unreasonable diversion of water resources and a real danger of water shortages,” Dimitrov says.
