There have been no violations at Bulgarian border crossings in connection with the case involving Iva Mihaylova, Anton Zlatanov, Director of the General Directorate of Border Police, said on Nova TV.
“We have already sent a response to the North Macedonian authorities, there is no record in the border control system of her crossing through any of the Bulgarian–North Macedonian border checkpoints,” Zlatanov stated. He recalled that an investigation into the case is ongoing.
“I have an idea of how Mihaylova entered Bulgaria, but I cannot comment,” Anton Zlatanov also said. He confirmed that there was nothing concerning in the case and that no violations had been committed by the Bulgarian authorities.
On the morning of October 12, it emerged that Iva Mihaylova was in Bulgaria. Speaking to Bulgarian media, Mihaylova and her Bulgarian lawyer, Nikolay Dimitrov, said they had entered Bulgaria through a border checkpoint and that Mihaylova had presented her identity cards issued by North Macedonia and Bulgaria. According to North Macedonia’s Ministry of the Interior, however, her departure from the country was not registered in the Border Police system.
Bulgaria has been notified by the authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia that they are seeking Iva Mihaylova and requesting her extradition.
On October 13, at 7.38 pm, the International Operational Cooperation Directorate received a message from INTERPOL Skopje requesting an international search, arrest and extradition of Iva Mihaylova, who holds both Bulgarian and North Macedonian citizenship, the Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior announced on October 14.
