Balgarianovinite.com Voter turnout in Slovenia’s parliamentary elections stood at 21.38% as of 11:00 a.m. local time, the State Election Commission announced on its website.
More than 3,000 polling stations opened across the country on Sunday for the regular parliamentary elections. Slovenian citizens can cast their votes until 7:00 p.m. local time, with the first official results expected at 8:30 p.m.
Voters are choosing among 1,185 candidates representing 17 parties and coalitions competing for 90 seats in parliament. A total of 81,705 people took part in early voting, which was held from Tuesday to Thursday.
The parties participating in Sunday’s election race include the ruling Freedom Movement (GS), the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), a coalition of New Slovenia – Christian Democrats (NSi), the Slovenian People’s Party (SLS), and Fokus, the Social Democrats (SD), a coalition of The Left and Vesna – Green Party, the Democrats (DEM), Resni.ca, Voice of Pensioners (GU), Karl Erjavec – Trust Party (Stranka Zaupanje, ZAU), the Alternative for Slovenia coalition, We, Socialists!, the Pirate Party of Slovenia, Prerod, the Slovenian National Party (SNS), a coalition of the Greens and the Party of Generation, Solution – Party of Pensioners Velenje (SUS), and Sloga.
By 10:30 a.m. local time, a total of 80 violations of the pre-election silence period had been reported, according to Slovenia’s Interior Ministry. The most common violations were related to social media posts. Of the reported cases, 64 were not confirmed as actual violations.
