Prices in Bulgaria’s small consumer basket remained broadly stable, rising by 0.7% month on month, data from the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) published on Wednesday show.
CITUB’s September price survey covers 20 food products and one non-food item. The increase from August was driven mainly by a 3.2% rise in petrol prices and the start of seasonal increases in fruit and vegetable prices.
Deputy Director of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research and Training (ISTURT) Violeta Ivanova said the basket cost EUR 62.02 in September, up from EUR 61.63 in August.
The steepest price rises from August were for cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes and apples. Staple food prices also increased.
