During the 5th two-day international nuclear conference and exhibition, Nuclear Energy – From Ambitions to Implementation, British Ambassador to Bulgaria Nathaniel Copsey said Thursday that nuclear energy required a long-term commitment.
The event, organized by the Bulgarian Energy and Mining Forum under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy, is held at the InterContinental Sofia hotel on October 1-2.
Copsey stressed that nuclear energy was one of the main pillars of the United Kingdom’s industrial sector.
He noted that the UK was embracing innovation and that its first nuclear power plant was a leader in the field of nuclear energy.
He said that clean sources of electricity were needed and that nuclear energy had a role to play in the energy mix. The key challenge, he added, was securing the funding required to build such energy sources.
The ambassador also said that nuclear energy could help meet the growing demand for electricity.
