The conference aims to establish a platform for sustainable cooperation between business and academia, as well as the tourism and food industries, said Prof. Galin Ivanov, Rector of the University of Food Technologies (UFT), at the opening of a tourism conference in Plovdiv on Friday.
Held on World Food Day, the conference highlighted UFT’s 70-plus years of supporting food industry innovation while preserving traditional Bulgarian food production expertise. Ivanov emphasized that traditional foods serve as culinary ambassadors, promoting Bulgaria’s cultural identity, supporting local producers and creating opportunities for SMEs and regional development.
Ivanov also highlighted the new Centre of Competence in Agri-Food Systems and Bioeconomy, led by UFT and involving eight leading Bulgarian research institutions. The centre will help verify the authenticity and quality of traditional foods, turning scientific research into a competitive advantage for Bulgarian businesses. The rector stressed that stronger cooperation between universities, institutions and businesses is essential for successful research, quality higher education and long-term value creation for Bulgaria.
The event concluded with Ivanov presenting honorary plaques to Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov and Agriculture and Foods Minister Plamen Abrovski in recognition of their institutional support and partnership.
The forum took place at the University of Food Technologies in Plovdiv, organized jointly with the National Tourism Board in partnership with the Tourism Ministry.
