A joint Bulgaria-Kazakhstan Business Council was established on Tuesday to promote trade and economic ties and provide a platform for direct dialogue between companies from the two countries.
The council was established during a bilateral business forum and business-to-business meetings at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The event was organized jointly by the BCCI, Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Sofia and Kazakhstan’s Chamber of International Commerce.
The new council aims to promote bilateral economic and trade relations and provide a lasting platform for direct dialogue between Bulgarian and Kazakh companies, information exchange, partnerships and joint initiatives.
“It is important to keep doors open for companies that want to develop their relations with Kazakhstan and to ensure an exchange of information about opportunities for cooperation,” BCCI Board Chairman Tsvetan Simeonov said. Beyond trade in raw materials, the partnership could lead to joint production of goods and services with higher added value, he added.
Simeonov also identified opportunities for agricultural cooperation, including knowledge exchange and the development of higher-yielding, disease-resistant grain varieties.
Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Viktor Temirbayev expressed hope that the new business council would broaden and deepen cooperation across economic sectors. Its establishment resulted from work by Kazakh and Bulgarian partners following the Bulgarian president’s visit to Kazakhstan in 2025, he said.
Kazakhstan’s Chamber of International Commerce Chairman Murat Karimsakov said bilateral trade had considerable potential, despite a recent temporary decline. The shared goal was to restore bilateral trade volumes and exceed previous levels, he added.
Bulgarian direct investment in Kazakhstan’s economy totalled more than USD 87 million between 2005 and 2025, Karimsakov said. Kazakhstan had 104 registered companies with Bulgarian participation, of which 64 were active in sectors including transport, digitalization, logistics, agriculture and energy, he added.
He identified transport logistics as a specific area for cooperation, including linking Bulgaria’s Black Sea ports to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, known as the Middle Corridor. This could provide a more direct logistics connection between Central Asia and Europe, he said.
Karimsakov also pointed to opportunities in agro-industry, food processing and technology. The new council should facilitate direct contacts between companies, reduce informational and administrative barriers, and encourage joint investment and production with higher added value, he said.
The forum gave Bulgarian companies an opportunity to meet Kazakh business representatives, present their activities and interests, and discuss specific prospects for trade, investment and partnerships.
The Kazakh companies’ interests span sectors including information technology, logistics, textiles, trade, agriculture and legal services.
