New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman revealed she’s been told privately that Democrats plan to subpoena billionaire Elon Musk should they take control of Congress.
On Bloomberg’s The Mishal Husain Show, Haberman was asked about the most “jaw-dropping” moments she’s seen in Trump’s second administration and she named Musk’s work with DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), which she described as a “de facto co-presidency,” as the most surprising.
“DOGE just was a failure. It didn’t work,” she said.
Haberman has become a target of the president over her reporting and co-authoring of the book Regime Change, a behind-the-scenes look at the start of Trump’s second administration.
When asked whether Democrats will subpoena Musk and investigate his months of work with DOGE in slashing parts of the federal government, Haberman revealed that’s exactly what she’s heard will happen.
The only hiccup could be timing, she said:
100%. I mean, people have privately told me that’s what they plan to do. Again, what they say they plan to do and what they will do can sometimes be different, but I do think they will.
I think the question becomes what they think they can accomplish doing this within a short amount of time because remember part of why the investigation into what happened on Jan. 6, 2021 and Trump’s efforts to stay in power are part of why it went the way it did.
The House Committee actually got a ton of information, but it was not a perfect investigation because, in part, they knew they only had two years and the House was likely to flip.
You’re going to have potentially the same thing here, and I think that might imact what they do and who they might look at, but I do think that Musk and DOGE are going to be topics.
