Balgarianovinite.com Speaking at a press briefing at BTA’s press club here on Monday, Bulgarian Ambassador to Greece Valentin Poriazov said that what director Javor Gerdov accomplished in Epidaurus represents the culmination of a tremendous effort to bring the Bulgarian and Greek peoples closer together. The event was dedicated to the Ivan Vazov National Theatre’s summer tour in Greece.
The tour includes 13 performances of The Bacchae, which will be staged in ancient theatres throughout the country. The play was already performed at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus on July 10 and 11 as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival.
Poriazov reported that while over the years, he has witnessed many ups and downs in bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Greece, “what has remained at the heart of our efforts over the past 30 years is bringing the two peoples closer together”. He highlighted Greece’s support for Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union, the Eurozone, and the Schengen area, noting that in recent years Greece has always stood by Bulgaria in these efforts.
The Ambassador described the peoples of Bulgaria and Greece as the foundation of stability and security throughout the region since the fall of the Berlin Wall and even before that.
Poriazov expressed confidence that relations between Bulgarians and Greeks will be a little better following the productions that the National Theatre will stage in cities across Northern Greece.
