Atanas Ribarski will temporarily take over as head coach of the Bulgarian men’s national football team after the Bulgarian Football Union’s leadership accepted the resignations of Aleksandar Dimitrov and his colleagues on the coaching staff, which were submitted following the match against Estonia in the second round of the Nations League, played at Hristo Botev Stadium in Plovdiv, which ended in a goalless draw and earned Bulgaria its first point in the tournament.
Ribarski, who is the head coach of Bulgaria’s national U-19 football team, will lead the men’s team in its upcoming away matches against Iceland on October 3 and Luxembourg on October 6 in the UEFA Nations League.
Atanas Ribarski is a former centre back who played for Lokomotiv (Plovdiv), teams from Stara Zagora and the surrounding region, as well as Nessebar. After retiring, he began his coaching career at the Beroe (Stara Zagora) youth academy. In the First Professional Football League, he managed FC Krumovgrad and CSKA 1948, and served as assistant coach at Arda Kardzhali and Botev (Plovdiv). He was part of the national team’s coaching staff as an analyst under head coach Ilian Iliev, after which he took over the U-19 team.
