Balgarianovinite.com The Bank of the Year award ceremony was held here on Tuesday evening. The grand prize for 2025 went to DSK Bank, and was presented to CEO Tamas Hak-Kovacs by President Iliana Iotova.
Among the guests of the event, organized by Bank of the Year Association, were also Bulgarian National Bank Deputy Governor Petar Chobanov, Association of Banks in Bulgaria Chair Petia Dimitrova, and European Comission Representation in Bulgaria head Yordanka Chobanova.
The other awards presented during the official ceremony are as follows:
Successful Digital Transformation – UniCredit Bulbank;
Best Active Digital Project – First Investment Bank, UniCredit Bulbank, and Postbank. The special award in this category was presented to UBB;
Foreign Bank Branch – Ziraat Bank in Sofia;
Mystery Shopper Bank – First Investment Bank;
Growth Dynamics – DSK Bank;
Efficiency – TBI Bank;
Market Share – UBB;
Sustainable Banking Brank – Postbank.
During the award ceremony, President Iotova said that the banking system in Bulgaria is an exceptionally well-functioning system that has remained stable throughout all the crises that have afflicted the world and the country in recent decades. In her words, the Bulgarian banking system has earned the trust of citizens, which is the most valuable asset today. Iotova emphasized that it was the best-prepared sector in the country for the adoption of the euro, adding that as of today, the most difficult challenges seem to be behind Bulgaria, but new challenges lie ahead. She cited as an example the efforts at the European level to create a digital euro.
Chobanov said that joining the eurozone is an important milestone for the Bulgarian economy, and that the banking sector played a key role in the process of adopting the single currency.
Dimitrova noted that the country’s banks are stable, well-capitalized, and liquid, emphasizing that the Bulgarian banking system stands out with better performance indicators compared to other banking communities in Europe.
The Bank of the Year awards have been conferred in Bulgaria since 1992. The statuettes and prizes for this year’s edition were created by sculptor Ivan Kulinski.
