Former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz is being accused of sex trafficking in a new federal lawsuit that names two other defendants.
“I look forward to taking the plaintiffs’ depositions because much of the conduct alleged against me is false,” Gaetz told the Miami Herald in a statement about the litigation.
“The lawsuit relies almost exclusively on a Congressional Committee report that didn’t allow me to confront my accusers. Now I will finally have that chance.”

Gaetz is named as a defendant in the suit, which was filed in the Middle District of Florida on Monday, along with ex-Seminole County tax collector Joel Greenberg and former Florida GOP House member Christopher Dorworth.
Greenberg previously pled guilt to multiple federal offenses, including sex trafficking of a child.
The alleged incidents in the lawsuit occurred from 2017 to 2019 and the accusations come from women identified as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2.
They were allegedly 20 and 22 when introduced to Gaetz. Jane Doe 1 alleged she witnessed Gaetz having sex with a 17-year-old girl, and both said they were paid thousands by Gaetz, though Gaetz would describe the payments as “Being my friend,” “car deductible,” and more.
The women claim they were supplied with drugs to “facilitate sexual encounters” with Goldberg’s associates.
The women alleged they were found by Greenberg on the website SeekingArangement.com where they were recruited and then introduced to men, including Gaetz.
The suit alleges Gaetz used the other defendants to cover up direct involvement in funding travel for girls recruited.
Attorney Spencer Kuvin, who is representing the plaintiffs, said they have obtained texts they believe will prove their case, accusing Gaetz and the other men of having “coordinated recruitment, payments, drugs, and travel to obtain commercial sexual acts.”
“The text messages we have we believe are incredibly damaging to Mr. Gaetz and Mr. Greenberg,” the attorney told WPTV.
The lawsuit is tied to accusations already made public from Gaetz’s Ethics Committee probe, which found “substantial evidence” that Gaetz used illegal drugs and paid for sex with a minor, which Gaetz has long denied. The Department of Justice previously declined to bring charges against Gaetz.
Gaetz resigned from Congress in November 2024 amid the ethics probe. Gaetz at the time had been nominated by President Donald Trump to be attorney general.
Gaetz currently hosts a show on OAN.
