Balgarianovinite.com Bulgaria, as a country not participating in the military actions carried out by the United States and Israel against the Iranian regime, aligns itself with the joint statement on the Strait of Hormuz issued on March 19, 2026, by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, and Canada, a position, released by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry and published on its official website, says.
The joint declaration expresses readiness to contribute to efforts aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and to take steps to stabilize global energy markets.
“We associate ourselves with the stated position, which condemns the recent attacks on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, as well as on civilian infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities, effectively leading to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The statement adds that, in this context, the ministry expresses deep concern over the escalating conflict and calls for an end to the laying of mines and other attempts to obstruct commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Maritime security and freedom of navigation are in the interest of all countries, including the Republic of Bulgaria.
“We welcome the readiness of allied countries, authors of the statement, to contribute appropriate measures to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. We also welcome the decision of the International Energy Agency to stabilize energy markets through the strategic release of oil reserves and other measures,” the ministry added.
