Balgarianovinite.com Bulgarian players won three gold medals and a bronze at the European Union Youth Chess Championship in the Czech Republic, the Bulgarian Sports Chess Federation said on Friday.
Kalin Kotsev won the boys’ U8 title, Niya Malcheva triumphed in the girls’ U12 category and Aleksandra Pehlivanova became champion in the girls’ U14 category. Georgi Koev took bronze in the boys’ U12 event.
The 24th edition of the championship, held under the patronage of the European Chess Union in Roznov pod Radhostem, brought together 132 competitors from 19 national federations.
“These results are the product of hard work, perseverance and talent, as well as the support of coaches, parents and clubs. The achievements of our young players once again demonstrate the importance of sustained care, clear prospects and tangible support for young talent,” the federation said.
“The lack of funding from the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the training and participation of these competitors remains a cause for concern. Transparent, fair and lawful decisions are needed to ensure that Bulgarian children can develop their potential and represent the country with distinction on the international stage.
“Congratulations to the champions, the medal winners and the entire Bulgarian team. We wish you many more strong games, bold moves and new heights,” the federation added.
