Newly elected Bulgarian Wrestling Federation (BWF) President Todor Angelov met United World Wrestling (UWW) President Nenad Lalovic ahead of the World Championships in Astana, the Bulgarian federation said on Friday. Lalovic, of Serbia, had been re-elected for a further five-year term.
After an initial one-to-one conversation, the meeting expanded to include Kazakhstan’s Sports Minister Erbol Kuantaevich and BWF Secretary General Belcho Goranov, who chairs UWW’s legal commission.
The championships, covering all three wrestling disciplines, will take place at Barys Arena from October 24 to November 1, 2026, opening with the Greco-Roman competition. Bulgaria will have six representatives in the discipline, led by Olympic champion Semen Novikov (87 kg) and European champion Kiril Milov (97 kg). Former European champion Edmond Nazaryan (60 kg) returns to major competition after a three-year absence due to injuries. The other three squad members are Stefan Grigorov (55 kg), Abu-Muslim Amaev (67 kg) and Svetoslav Nikolov (82 kg).
Bulgaria’s interim coaching staff for the championships comprises Biser Georgiev, Andrey Dimitrov, Dimo Dimchev and Yulian Georgiev.
