The Stara Zagora State Opera will pair Puccini’s two one-act operas, Sister Angelica and Gianni Schicchi, on Friday, showcasing his remarkable range from intimate tragedy to biting comedy.
Italian baritone Nicola Ziccardi will make his debut in Stara Zagora as Gianni Schicchi in Puccini’s comic opera. In Gianni Schicchi, greedy relatives gather after a wealthy man’s death, eager to claim their inheritance rather than mourn him.
The cast includes Ni Kenji as Lauretta, Stoyan Buyukliev as Rinuccio, and Teresa Brakalova as Zita, alongside the opera’s orchestra and choir. Directed by Michal Znaniecki, with Vladimir Boshnakov conducting, the production features sets by Luigi Scoglio, costumes by Ana Ramos Aguayo, and choreography by Silvia Tomova.
