Bulgarian citizens in Austria can cast their vote in the presidential and vice-presidential election on Sunday at 17 polling stations.
There are polling stations in all Austrian provinces, with eight located in the capital, Vienna.
According to Nikolay Yanev, chair of the polling station committee at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute Wittgenstein House in Vienna, election day is proceeding calmly, and from the start at 7 a.m. this morning until 11 a.m., 80 people had cast their ballots. Most voters, under the supervision of a commission member, filled out a declaration stating that they have not voted elsewhere. Thirty-four people had pre-registered. Voting is proceeding quickly, and no lines have formed, as there are two voting machines at this polling station.
Yanev said that the chairs of the election commissions are in contact with their colleagues at other polling stations in Vienna and throughout the province – Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Wels, Bregenz, Breitenbrunn am Neusiedler See, Leoben, Linz, and Klagenfurt.
Across the country, the election process is proceeding calmly and without incidents. In Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia, a line formed Sunday morning of Bulgarians eager to exercise their right to vote, as the fall break has begun in Austria, and Monday is a national holiday, so clearly many compatriots have chosen the southern Austrian province as a destination for a short vacation.
