Balgarianovinite.com Burgas’ bid for European Capital of Culture 2032, book launches, a theatre production and concerts were among the highlights of the fifth day of the 42nd Apollonia Festival of Arts in Sozopol on Monday.
The day began with a discussion in the festival’s The Price of Success series, during which the Burgas 2032 Foundation presented the city’s bid for the 2032 title. The event brought together representatives of local government and the cultural sector, as well as members of the team that worked on Plovdiv’s bid for the title in 2019.
Literature retained its traditionally important place in the afternoon and evening programme. Vasil Popov’s book Lehusa & Azhder was presented at Sozopol Art Gallery. A presentation of Rivers of Time by Evgenia Krasteva-Blagoeva followed, with literary critic Maurice Fadel, event moderator Preslava Peneva, LIK magazine Editor-in-Chief Georgi Lozanov and the author’s husband Goran Blagoev taking part alongside Krasteva-Blagoeva.
Artvent staged The Effect at the Otets Paisiy Community Centre.
The music programme featured two chamber events. Violinist Albena Danailova, violist Rumen Tsvetkov and cellist Alexander Somov gave a concert at the Archaeological Museum. Classic Impro Trio performed at the same venue later in the evening.
Another highlight was the presentation of Mount Athos in Drawings and Photographs 2 by Rector Miroslav Dachev of the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts and Petko Zadgorski Burgas Art Gallery Director and artist Andrey Yanev. Representatives of cultural and academic life attended the event at Sozopol Art Gallery, among them Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven, literary historian Mihail Nedelchev and Apollonia Foundation Executive Director Margarita Dimitrova.
The film Aurora was screened at the Outdoor Cinema. The evening ended with music when B.T.R. performed for the festival audience at the Apollonia Amphitheatre.
The Apollonia Festival of Arts has been held since 1984. It is organized by the Apollonia Foundation, established in 1991. Every year, the Apollonia stages in Sozopol attract hundreds of artists and thousands of art enthusiasts from Bulgaria and around the world. The festival aims to preserve cultural traditions and support new talent in various art forms. This year’s programme includes more than 70 events in music, theatre, literature, film and visual arts.
BTA is a media partner of the event and will take part in The Price of Success series with a presentation of the 12 issues of LIK magazine published since the previous edition of Apollonia. The presentation will take place on September 1.
