Balgarianovinite.com Construction of the new four-seat chairlift at the Pamporovo resort will be halted because it violates the Forestry Act, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov said in an interview with the TravelNews portal on Monday. The case will also be referred to the prosecution service, he stressed.
At the end of October 2025, the Smolyan Municipal Council has authorised the preparation of a Detailed Development Plan for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the existing Malina-Studenets chairlift in Pamporovo. The Council approved the preparation of the plan to allow Pamporovo AD to replace the current single-seat chairlift with a new four-seat installation. The project envisages replacing 11 of the total 23 pylons along the route.
The project does not constitute a simple replacement of the existing single-seat chairlift, as a new installation is being constructed, Shishkov explained. A construction permit has been issued, but the project goes beyond what is permitted under the current legislation, the Regional Development Minister stressed.
Pamporovo AD firmly rejects the allegations of illegal construction, TravelNews added, quoting the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Stefan Prisadov, who said that all necessary procedures had been completed and coordinated with the competent authorities.
Shishkov also said that active work has been underway in recent weeks on amendments to the Forestry Act that would enable owners of ski facilities to implement their investment plans and modernise the existing infrastructure.
