Balgarianovinite.com The opposition Continue the Change (CC) party calls for a nationwide inspection of the technical condition of crash barriers on Bulgaria’s road networks, arguing that stronger safety measures are needed to reduce the risk of serious traffic accidents. Speaking to reporters in parliament, MP Yordan Terziyski said the party is demanding an assessment of both road safety infrastructure and the condition of existing guardrails across the national road network.
“We insist on an inspection of the technical condition of road safety infrastructure and the crash barriers on the republican road network,” Terziyski said.
The party has also launched a petition calling for the replacement of the inferior crash barriers with concrete barriers.
“Bulgarian citizens pay tens of millions for roads and road safety. Unfortunately, they are not receiving safety on the roads,” Terziyski said.
According to Terziyski, Continue the Change is proposing both short-term and medium-term measures to improve road safety.
As an immediate step, the party is calling for an analysis to determine whether existing crash barriers on the national road network comply with European standards. Where barriers fail to meet those standards, PP proposes banning overtaking by heavy goods vehicles until the infrastructure is upgraded.
As a medium-term measure, the party is advocating for the installation of concrete median barriers on suitable sections of the road network, arguing that they provide greater protection against cross-median crashes involving heavy vehicles.
