Balgarianovinite.com Saturday is a day of pre-election silence in Slovenia ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday, March 22.
The election campaign of all participating parties officially ended last night at midnight local time.
A total of 17 parties and coalitions are competing for seats in Slovenia’s 90-member parliament. To secure a parliamentary majority, a party or coalition must win at least 46 seats.
The parties taking part in the election include the ruling Freedom Movement (GS), the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), a coalition comprising New Slovenia – Christian Democrats (NSi), the Slovenian People’s Party (SLS), and Fokus, the Social Democrats (SD), a coalition of The Left and Vesna – Green Party, the Democrats (DEM), Resni.ca, Voice of Pensioners (GU), the Alternative for Slovenia coalition, We, Socialists!, the Pirate Party of Slovenia, Prerod, the Slovenian National Party (SNS), a coalition of the Greens and the Party of Generations, Solution – Party of Pensioners Velenje (SUS), and Sloga.
According to the latest opinion poll, support for the SDS and the GS is nearly equal, with both parties projected to win around 28 seats each. If the results match these forecasts, the leading party will need to form a coalition with other parties in order to achieve a parliamentary majority.
A total of seven parties are expected to enter parliament. In addition to the SDS and the GS, these are the NSi–SLS–Fokus coalition, the SD, the DEM, the Left–Vesna coalition, Resni.ca, Prerod, the SNS, and the Pirate Party.
