Debris has been found for Bulgarian investigators to analyse, Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev said on Tuesday when asked about the drone-damaged ship Chelsea 3.
Peev spoke to reporters in Kaloyanovo, a village in Plovdiv Region, about the attack in the Black Sea. Asked what the debris was and where it had been found, he said: “I have no information. It is very important for every institution and ministry to know its responsibilities. Our responsibilities are to manage vessel traffic in the 12-nautical-mile zone and to organize and direct search and rescue operations.”
Partner organizations experienced in such investigations would be brought in if Bulgarian agencies lacked the technical capacity, he added.
he vessel was at the Port of Burgas, where Bulgarian agencies were investigating, Peev said. The Transport Ministry had organized the towing operation. The ship’s structural integrity had been compromised, with three major hull breaches, he added. Asked who would cover the towing costs, Peev said the vessel was insured. “The details always matter. We brought the ship here because we want to conduct an impartial investigation. From here on, it is a matter of working out the details. This is also a legal and financial issue that will be discussed, and you will be informed.”
The drone-damaged motor vessel Chelsea 3 was towed to Burgas port on Saturday.
