Dr Evgeniya Kercheva was named Doctor of the Year at the regional level in Razgrad, the Razgrad Regional Medical Association under the Bulgarian Medical Association reported on Monday.
Kercheva said: “The smiles of children I have treated and the peace of mind of their parents are the greatest reward and a sign of a job well done.” The paediatrician described the award as a great honour, reflecting her dedication, responsibility and commitment to caring for young patients. She added that the recognition motivates her to continue working with the same professionalism and compassion.
Kercheva highlighted the growing challenges facing medical professionals, including increasing attacks against healthcare workers. She stressed the importance of following the Hippocratic Oath, putting human values before material gain, and approaching the profession with integrity and a sense of duty.
On Bulgarian Doctors’ Day, celebrated on October 19 in honour of St. John of Rila, she wished her colleagues good health, professional fulfilment and continued dedication. Her message to young doctors was to be patient, work diligently and responsibly, and trust that their professional goals will be achieved in time.
Kercheva has 28 years of experience in neonatology and paediatrics. She has managed Vita Medica Medical Centre in Razgrad for 15 years. She holds qualifications in paediatrics, clinical homeopathy and paediatric ultrasound, with additional training in paediatric nephrology and gastroenterology.
