Balgarianovinite.com Bulgaria’s Finance Ministry placed EUR 100 million in debt on the domestic market at an auction here on Monday, it transpires from the website of the Bulgarian National Bank. Offered were five-year government securities with an annual interest rate of 2.75%.
The total nominal value of the bids admitted for participation was EUR 183,950,000, including non-competitive bids amounting to EUR 11,200,000. The coverage coefficient was 1.84. The average price of the bids admitted to the auction was EUR 99.67 per EUR 100 nominal value.
The achieved weighted average annual yield stood at 3.43%.
This was the fourth offer of the same issue of five-year government securities in 2026. At the previous three auctions, where the Ministry placed EUR 150 million in debt, the achieved weighted average annual yield was 2.94% in January, 3.03% in March, and 3.33% in April.
Monday’s auction is the tenth on the domestic market since the beginning of 2026. The amount of new debt raised on the domestic market this year totals EUR 1.51 billion, while the total amount of debt issued reaches EUR 4.01 billion. On July 7, Bulgaria successfully issued bonds in three tranches totalling EUR 2.5 billion on international capital markets.
Under the newly adopted 2026 State Budget Act, the maximum government debt for this year is EUR 10.1 billion, including up to EUR 3.261 billion under the EU’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument to strengthen the defence industry. The government debt is expected to reach EUR 37.7 billion at the end of the year, or 30.1% of GDP.
In 2025, the Ministry of Finance placed new debt through the sale of government securities amounting to approximately EUR 8.9 billion (BGN 17.4 billion).
