Balgarianovinite.com In a Facebook post on Friday, Continue the Change (CC) Floor Leader Nikolay Denkov said that the time for experimenting with Bulgarian citizens’ health was over and that Health Minister Katya Ivkova should resign from her position.
Denkov said Thursday’s meeting of the parliamentary Health Committee had once again shown that Health Minister Katya Ivkova had no adequate answers to any of the key issues, while the proposed “reform” of the healthcare system was in fact a series of changes with questionable objectives and unconvincing arguments as to how they would be achieved.
He added that there were no answers regarding the risks and uncertainties surrounding the replacement of regional health inspectorates with territorial directorates under the Health Ministry. Denkov said it was also unclear how Ivkova would fulfill the commitment she made at the beginning of her term to raise the salaries of young doctors and nurses. He criticized the discrepancy between the Ministry’s promise on prevention and the fact that the National Health Insurance Fund budget allocates 5.5 times more funding for hospital treatment.
Denkov said it was alarming that the Ministry might remove the requirement for higher education for assistant pharmacists and replace it with specialized secondary education.
“Bulgaria cannot afford incompetent leadership of the Health Ministry that risks finishing off an already struggling healthcare system, with all the consequences for patients and medical professionals. It certainly deserves a better health minister,” Denkov said.
