Balgarianovinite.com In a publication released on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly advised against non-essential travel to Cuba due to the crisis situation in the country. Citizens are reminded that the travel risk index for Cuba has been set at level 4: warning to refrain from traveling if not extremely urgent, due to the worsening crisis in Cuba’s energy system, including fuel shortages and widespread power cuts, as well as difficulties with healthcare, urban and inter-city transport, the increased risk of crime, and the limited availability of medicines, essential goods and services.
The Foreign Ministry warned that opportunities to leave the country are becoming increasingly limited, as the number of international commercial flights from Havana and other Cuban cities has already been drastically reduced due to a shortage of aviation fuel. The routes of the flights that are still available always include technical stopovers in third countries for refuelling, which significantly increases journey times and leads to frequent changes to timetables.
Bulgarian citizens who are already in Cuba are advised to check flight status updates regularly and to stay in touch with their tour operators for the latest information. Due to the observed increase in the number of incidents such as robberies, thefts and pickpocketing, Bulgarian citizens should exercise increased caution, particularly in areas frequented by tourists. It is also recommended that they avoid places with large gatherings of people and follow the instructions of the local authorities. Measures should also be taken to ensure sufficient supplies of water, food and medicines, as well as access to charging facilities for electronic devices.
